Mario DeLeon Campos, age 92 of Seguin, passed away on March 22, 2024. Mario was born on January 19, 1932 in Seguin, Texas to Regina (DeLeon) and Evaristo Campos.
Mario was a Korean combat veteran who bravely served his country in the United States Army. He proudly fought in the battle of Pork Chop Hill demonstrating unwavering courage and resilience in the face of adversity.
Mario was known for his kind heart and boundless love for his family. He took great pride in being an uncle through 5 generations. He was called Uncle, Tio, or Dewy. He was always ready with a smile, a hug, loving notes left for you, and words of wisdom for each of his nieces and nephews. They were his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them, creating unforgettable memories with everyone that will be treasured forever.
His love for gardening was evident in the vibrant blooms and lush greenery that adorned his garden. Not just his garden but often gardening at nieces and nephews to be sure that they too had blooms. His favorites were bluebonnets that he took special care of, Zinnias, and Yellow Roses. Whether tending to his flowers or vegetables, he poured his heart and soul into cultivating beauty and sustenance from the earth. His garden was not just a hobby but a reflection of his nurturing spirit and appreciation for the simple pleasures of life.
Mario touched the lives of all who knew him with his warmth, amazing sense of humor, generosity, and gentle spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a deep connection to the natural world. Though he may have bid farewell to this earthly garden, his memory will continue to bloom in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Mario is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Marcelina Campos and Partricio Campos who both died of Typhoid Fever as teenagers, Herminia Campos who died at the age of 6, Edmundo Campos, Adam Campos Sr., Eva Garcia, and brother-in-law Secundino Rangel, Sr. and sister-in-law Cecilia Campos.
Survivors include brothers Evaristo Campos Sr., Ciriaco Campos wife Amparo , his sister, Amelia Rangel and sister-in- law Rebecca Campos; nieces and nephews, Eddie Campos wife Sylvia, Ricky Campos, Diane husband Rudy Rios, Christopher Rangel wife Ileen, Secundino Rangel Jr wife Alicia, Cynthia Rangel, Debbie Gutierrez husband Raul G, Mary Grace Campos, Adam Campos Jr. wife Heather, Sarah Campos husband Ralph Villarreal, Adrian Campos wife Jeanette, Theresa Campos husband Ramiro Andrade, Marcelina Campos, Abel Campos wife Linda, Edward Campos wife Margo, Anna Campos, Monica Garcia husband Joseph Gonzales, Veronica Garcia partner Tony Noriega, Conrad Garcia Jr., Gabriel Garcia wife Deann, Lori husband Frank Bautista, Ciriaco Regino Campos(Gino), Rene Campos, Lisa Campos partner Rey DeLaGarza, Melissa Campos, Adelita Campos partner Jesse Martinez, Joshua Campos partner Crystal, and Jason Campos wife Laura; Many great nieces and great nephews through five generations, of which he was very proud.
In honoring his memory, may we all take a moment to cherish the bonds of family and the beauty of nature, just as Mario did throughout his life. Rest in peace, dear Mario, your love and legacy will forever live on.
Visitation will begin on Monday, March 25, 2024, at 5 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel followed by the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. with Deacon Nick Carrillo officiating. A procession will depart Tres Hewell Mortuary on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. for the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment with military honors will follow in St. James Catholic Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Conrad Garcia, Jr., Eddie Campos, Adam Campos, Jr., Chris Rangel, Butch Rangel, and Fernando Leal. Honorary pallbearers will be Marc Rangel, Michael Leal, Secundino Rangel III, Abel Campos, Edward Campos, Robert Rene Cervantes, Justin Ramirez and Gabriel Garcia.
