(Edinburg) — Seguin High School sophomore Trinity MacLeod punched her ticket to the women’s state powerlifting meet with a 5th-place finish at the Region V Class 5A Division-1 meet on Wednesday in Edinburg.

MacLeod, who competes in the 114-pound weight class, squatted 280 pounds, bench pressed 165 pounds and dead lifted 255 pounds for a total of 700 pounds. The squat and bench lifts were MacLeod’s best of the season. Her 255 pound dead lift matched her best of the season.

MacLeod will next compete at the state championship. The Class 5A women’s state powerlifting championship will be held at the Comerica Center in Frisco on Saturday, March 16th.

Meanwhile in Class 4A, six Navarro Lady Panthers qualified for the state meet on Tuesday also in Edinburg.

Individually, Haley Karlik set a Regional Record with a 235 bench press. Kaiya Castle got the award for Most Outstanding Deadlift across the heavyweight divisions.

1st Place: Maggie Patlan (242lb), Alondra Hernandez (242+)

2nd Place: Haley Karlik (132lb), Kayley Thomas (181lb)

3rd Place: Alectra Dimas (114lb), Gabby Geipel (148lb), Kaiya Castle (165lb), Sloan Wacaster (198lb)

5th: Addison Deets (97lb), Paola Hernandez (181lb)

The Class 4A women’s state powerlifting championship will be held on Friday, March 15 at the Comerica Center.
