Seguin ISD Board of Trustees to discuss hiring superintendent

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today

Seguin ISD Board of Trustees to discuss hiring superintendent

(Seguin) — The search for the next superintendent of schools for the Seguin ISD returns to the agenda tonight.

The Seguin ISD Board of Trustees is slated to meet behind closed doors to discuss taking possible action in replacing former Superintendent Dr. Matthew Gutierrez, who resigned in September after taking a position as the chief of schools in the Leander ISD. Since then, the leadership role has been filled by Interim Superintendent Dr. Veronica Vijil, who had arrived over the summer to serve as the district’s deputy superintendent. Tonight’s agenda calls for the possible action to name a lone finalist for superintendent. Since there hasn’t been an official search started, that would signal that the board may consider removing the interim tag from Dr. Vijil, and formally giving her the job. If a decision is made tonight, that decision will have to be made in open session.

Also on the agenda is the district’s possible ordering of a bond election. Details of that bond are slated to be discussed and publicly shared during tonight’s meeting. If an order is approved, the bond election will come before voters on May 4, 2024.

The meeting begins at 6:30 tonight in the Seguin ISD Board Room located inside of Oak Park Mall.
