(New Braunfels) — The Seguin Matadors will be just down the road tonight for another pivotal District 12-5A match-up.
Seguin travels over to New Braunfels to take on the Canyon Cougars in a game both teams need to win to stay in the district playoff picture. The Cougars currently sit one game out of the fourth and final playoff spot at 2-2. Last week the Matadors beat Hays to improve to 3-1 in district, creating a three-way tie with Boerne-Champion and San Antonio Wagner for second place.
Seguin head coach Craig Dailey says his team is doing a good job of handling pressure late in the season.
“We tell our kids, ‘don’t get too, don’t get too low’ and I thought they did a good job last week,” Dailey said. “Hays made some plays the other night and our offense was like ‘we got it.’ So, the kids are real positive. That’s what we’re preaching this week. It’s gonna be an intense, physical football game. But that’s what you expect when it comes playoff time.”
The Cougars won last year’s meeting between the two schools, 27-14 at Matador Stadium. Tonight is homecoming at Canyon High School.
Seguin running back John Jackson has already broken the school single season rushing mark. The senior has 1415 yards with three more games left in the regular season to add to his record.
Canyon junior wide-out Harry Hassmann is averaging over 100 yards receiving per game. He leads the Cougars with nine touchdowns on the season.
Tonight’s game between Seguin and Canyon kicks off at 7 p.m. at Canyon High School. We’ll have all the play by play action on KWED.
(Geronimo) — The Navarro Panthers welcome 5th-ranked Wimberley to Geronimo in a District 13-4A tilt tonight.
Both teams sit tied a top the district at 2-0. The Texans, coming off a season in 2022 in which they made it to the state championship game, beat the Panthers 21-14 in Wimberley last year.
The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Erwin-Lee Field in Geronimo.
(Ingram) — And the Marion Bulldogs are in Ingram tonight for a District 13-3A clash with the Moore Warriors.
Both teams are 1-2 in district, just a half-game out of the last playoff spot in the district. Tonight’s game kicks off at 7 p.m. in Ingram.
