Former City Councilman dies


(Seguin) — A former Seguin City Councilman who served the city for a full decade is being remembered. Jesus “Jesse” Leal, who served on the city council between May 1960 and April 1970, died Monday. During his time on the council, Leal also served as Mayor Pro Tem.

That decade of service to the city included his role in the approval of Guadalupe Valley Hospital, the Seguin High Rise, as well as the Seguin Fire Department on Vaughn Street. In addition to serving his country in the Korean War, Leal was also of service to his community having been instrumental in the groundbreaking of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

The funeral for Leal will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church. Leal was 91.
