(Boerne) — It’s a battle to stay in first place in District 12-5A tonight in the Hill Country. The Seguin Matadors travel to Boerne to take on the Champion Chargers in a match-up of 2-0 teams.

The Matadors have beaten Lehman and MacArthur for their two wins, while Champion has taken down Canyon and Hays. The Chargers missed the playoffs last season after a deep run two years ago.

Seguin head coach Craig Dailey says Champion is playing more determined football this season.

“They got a lot of guy returning. It seems like they’re playing with more of an edge this year than they were last year,” Dailey said. “Defensively, they’re a 3-4 man team. They like to pressure you. So, we’re really gonna have to handle all their pressure looks.

“Offensively it all goes through their quarterback, Jordan Ballin. He can hurt you throwing the ball and running the ball. He’s a dual-threat guy. So, we’re really gonna have to contain him. Most of their big plays are not pass plays where he throws the ball down the field, but pass plays where he leaves the pocket and scrambles for a big one.”

The Matadors won last year’s meeting between the two schools, 42-21 at Matador Stadium. Tonight is homecoming at Champion High School.

Seguin running back John Jackson leads the Mat rushing attack with 1089 yards on the season, 5th in the state of Texas in 11-man football. Jackson received two college football offers earlier this week and yesterday his teammate Cooper Neumann was extended two offers.

The senior center received offers from East Central University in Oklahoma and Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. On Wednesday, senior tight end Jackson Pond and senior defensive back Donovan Cray were also offered by Hardin-Simmons.

Tonight’s game between Seguin and Champion kicks off at 7 p.m. at Boerne ISD Stadium. We’ll have all the play by play action on KWED.

(Geronimo) — The Navarro Panthers are back home to kick off their District 13-4A schedule tonight.

The Panthers will host Lago Vista. Navarro will look to avenge a playoff loss to the Vikings last year. Both teams went 3-2 in non-district. The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Erwin-Lee Field in Geronimo.

(Blanco) — And the Marion Bulldogs are in the Hill Country tonight to take on Blanco in a District 13-3A match-up.

Marion is 0-1 in district. The Panthers are 1-1. The game kicks at 7 p.m. at Blanco High School.

We’ve got all the teams covered tonight on KWED. Our High School Football Friday Night coverage starts at 6:15 p.m. with the Navarro Panther Report where we’ll talk with Navarro head coach Rod Blount. That will be followed by the Marion Bulldog report with Marion head coach Ryne Miller.

Then we’ll head to Boerne ISD Stadium for our Matador pre-game show where we’ll have more with Seguin coach Craig Dailey inside the Matador Report. Again it all starts at 6:15 p.m. on AM 1580 and streaming online worldwide at SeguinToday.com.
