Traffic stop leads to a drug bust on IH-10

(Seguin) — A 21-year-old man from Nuevo Laredo, Mexico faces federal prosecution after a traffic stop on IH-10 resulted in his arrest.

Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Narcotics Lt. John Flores says on Friday, Sept. 29 at 3:30 p.m., K-9 Sgt. Dustin Crawford conducted a traffic stop on a 2011 Ford F150 on Interstate 10 eastbound near the 615-mile marker.  While speaking with the driver, he says Sgt. Crawford observed criminal indicators consistent with drug trafficking.

Sgt. Crawford deployed his K-9 partner Eddie for an open-air sniff of the vehicle. It was then that K-9 Eddie was alerted to the odor of narcotics. Sgt. Crawford searched the vehicle and located a metal cylinder in the bed of the pickup truck.  It was discovered that the metal cylinder contained a false compartment.  Once the cylinder was opened, Flores says 7.20 kilograms of cocaine were found inside. The value of the seized drugs totaled $100,800.

The driver was identified as Eduardo Alejandro Salazar Martinez. Martinez was placed under arrest. Martinez has since been released to the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration)  for federal prosecution.
