(Marion) — It was a straight sets victory for the Marion Lady Bulldog volleyball team at their 2023 season home opener on Tuesday as they took down Uvalde 25-15, 25-4, 25-11.

Senior hitters Kamryn Garza and Kylie Balderas lead the way with a combined 20 kills on the night. Marion head coach Melissa Mitchell-Schuetz talked about how the pair worked in the off-season to improve their games.

“I’m super-excited for them. They’ve worked so hard over the summer in the weight room and on the track, and it shows,” Mitchell-Schuetz said. “They got in some club work and so they got in a lot of reps over the summer. I get goosebumps thinking about them and how far they’ve come and how far they’re gonna go. The key is just keeping them healthy.”

Middle hitter Madi Love was dominant at the net for the Lady Bulldogs defensively tallying four blocks on the night. Setter Kacee McLendon was efficient setting up her teammates with 13 assists.
