Seguin plans for the COOLEST birthday party tonight

(Seguin) — The Texas heat isn’t going to stop Seguin from celebrating its 185th birthday. That’s because the Texas Theatre will be helping to cool things down by allowing the Seguin Conservation Society to host tonight’s (Aug.11) birthday celebration indoors.

Traditionally, the event is hosted outside the First Church and Hoermann Log Cabin in the Heritage Village located at 211 E. Live Oak St.

Seguin Conservation Society President Marty Keil, says although the location has changed, all the great traditional birthday events are still on as scheduled.

“The hottest funnest birthday party of the year is now going to be the coolest birthday party of the year at the Texas Theatre but we will have the same programs as usual with Kirk Herbold as Friends being our entertainment for the evening. We will still have a rider from the Guadalupe County Sheriff Posse arrive with a proclamation about 6:15 p.m. and there’s going to be a lone rider this year just bringing the proclamation to the front of the theatre where the mayor will receive it and then all of the program therefore will be taking place in the main auditorium of the theatre,” said Keil.

Keil says the meal and of course the ice cream contest are also still on tap for tonight.

“Our homemade ice cream contest is still going to take place and that will be in the Chandelier Room of the theatre and the catered meal by Next Door Catering will be plated there in the Chandelier Room. We will have meals to go and if you drive north on Austin Street, you can pull up right up in front of the theatre and we will have a tent up and we can bring a meal to your car,” said Keil.

BBQ tickets are $15 pre-sale and can be purchased at Gift & Gourmet, Keepers, the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce or from any board member. Plate tickets at the event will be $20.

Entries for the homemade ice cream are still be accepted and should arrive by 4:30 p.m. Categories include Best Homemade Vanilla, Best Pecan, Best Non-Vanilla and People’s Choice. Entries will not be accepted if they contain raw eggs. Winners will be announced at 7 p.m.

The birthday celebration runs today from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The Texas Theatre located at 425 N. Austin St.
