(Seguin) — The Seguin Education Foundation (SEF) is a 501c3 nonprofit corporation dedicated to supporting the students and teachers of the Seguin Independent School District (SISD). The SEF is governed by a volunteer board of directors with diverse professional and personal backgrounds who are united in their desire to positively influence the community.
“It’s the time of year when we begin the process of recruiting a few members to fill vacant seats on our board,” according to SEF Executive Director Kelly Donegan Follis. “I am proud of the fact that the 35 seats on our board are highly coveted, with more applicants than available positions over the last few years.
Directors come from a wide array of backgrounds including from local industry, small business, the public sector, the service sector, health care, education, and more. No matter the background of our members, they understand that a better school district creates a better future for our community and they’re anxious to participate.”
The SEF board is a fundraising board, but also actively participates in distributing the resources it raises, according to Follis.
“It’s not just about raising money and throwing it into a blackhole. Our directors are invited to actually go onto our campuses to deliver a welcoming gift to every new teacher each fall, as well as to award innovative teaching grants to teachers across the district, and to honor exemplary students and their educator heroes at our annual “Celebration of Excellence” banquet. They get to see that the fruits of their labor really are appreciated and well-used.
In addition, our directors are “in the know” about SISD activities and are viewed as trusted resources by our administration for job fairs and other campus activities.”
