Flapjack Jamboree celebrates 65th anniversary

Pancake breakfast, raffle to be held this Saturday

(Seguin) — You might want to leave breakfast up to the Kiwanis this weekend. The Kiwanis Club of Seguin will be hosting its 65th Annual Flapjack Jamboree on Saturday in the First Methodist Church parking lot.

Club President Amanda Dasher says thanks to its members, the Flapjack Jamboree is not only the group’s largest fundraiser of the year but one of the longest-running community fundraisers in the area.

“Something that is super unique about our Flapjack Jamboree is we do have one of our members Ed Engelhardt. He’s been in the Kiwanis Club for over 50 years. He’s been flipping pancakes and sausages for over 50 years. So, it’s all of us coming together and just waking up at 5 a.m. to be out there to actually give out that meal and prepare it ourselves,” said Dasher.

Dasher says what makes it even more special is that breakfast is served hot off the griddle and is delivered straight into your vehicle.

“It will start at 6 a.m. It’s a drive-thru service. We will have two drive-thrus that will be operating and the plate is $10. You get two big pancakes, two sausages, and then your choice of orange juice or water. We will also have the Navarro Jazz Band out there performing so people are more than welcome to pull up their car, take a seat, and listen to that while they eat,” said Dasher.

In addition to its pancake breakfast, Dasher says folks will also get the chance to snag one of the great prizes in this year’s raffle.

“Our first raffle item is from Lions Den (Art) Collective. Tattoo artist Jeremiah Camacho has gifted us a $150 gift card for a tattoo. We have another raffle item that was sponsored by the Burnt Bean and the Sweet Spot. It’s a $100 gift card to Burnt Bean and then $50 to the Sweet Spot and they are collected at The Backyard. Our third raffle item was donated by Healing Hands Chiropractic. It is a Michael Kors crossbody bag. Our fourth item is a Blackstone grill. I believe it’s a 20-inch griddle to cook up on and the accessories for it and then our last item is sponsored by the Law Office of Ruben James Reyes and Oehlke CPA, it is a 60-inch TV and sound bar,” said Dasher.

The breakfast meal will be served until 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Raffle or Flapjack tickets can be purchased from any club member or on the morning of the event. Raffle tickets are $5 each or five for $20. Winners will be drawn on Facebook Live immediately following the event. The First Methodist Church is located at 710 N. Austin St.
