(Seguin) — A local church is doing its part to fill the season with plenty of summer memories. St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church is inviting families to join it for the first of three summer night experiences.
Tracy Donley, the children’s minister at St. Andrew’s, says the church has created a new local opportunity to bring people and families together this summer season.
“We are very excited about it. We kind of put our heads together and were thinking about ways of engaging the whole family together and giving them some really special summer memories to take with them so that was the idea behind Summer Nights is that instead of just a thing where you drop your kids off, we actually invite the family and they do something together that they will always remember,” said Donley.
Setting forth that plan is today’s free movie night. Donley says tonight’s movie showing is a great way to kick off a night of fun.
“Tonight’s event is going to be the movie ‘The Parent Trap,’ that old Disney Classic which you’ve got to watch every summer and then each event is kind of something that makes you think about summer that is the epitome of summer,” said Donley.
Donley says tonight’s movie is just the first of three events scheduled for the summer season.
“There’s one event each month of the whole summer. So, yes, there’s tonight June 11 and then there’s July 10 and then there’s Aug. 14 and it’s free. The whole family is invited. You can come if you have kids or if you don’t have kids. Couples can come. Anyone can come and we designed these events to kind of appeal to the kid in all of us. So tonight’s event is a movie night and there’s pizza and there’s popcorn and it’s a free and it’s a wholesome movie and everyone can watch it and have fun,” said Donley.
Summer Nights on July 10 will be an Ice Cream Social. The night will include crafts, dinner and a sing-a-long. A Water Fun event is also scheduled for Aug. 14. The night will include dinner plus water slides and water games.
Tonight’s free showing of “The Parent Trap” will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the church. The church is located at 201 E. Nolte St.
