(Seguin) — The South Texas Pregnancy Care Center is expanding to further meet the needs of expecting parents in the Seguin area.  The center, which is currently located on West Court Street, recently broke ground in its new building, to be built on East Kingsbury Street, just west of the Texas Department of Public Safety Office.

Executie Director Janice Weaver says a new pregnancy care center is needed in this community.  The center says it works to support families by offering a number of services to parents. Weaver says they continue to see their numbers grow, and the new location will be welcome addition to their work.

“We have averaged around 20 to 21 pregnancy tests every month. We do free pregnancy tests (and) free ultrasounds. We (also) do parenting classes. In January 2023, we did 41 pregnancy tests, and we did 27 free ultrasounds. So, there is a huge need in our community,” said Weaver.

The South Texas Pregnancy Care Center supports the right to life for all babies. Weaver says their mission is to help all of those prospective parents, especially young parents, love, care and support their babies. She says they offer resources that otherwise would not be available in this community.

“We take those young women and men — I just left the center and we had a couple in the center getting ready to go through some classes — and we take them and we mentor them until their babies are two. We try to help them just be the best parents they can be. So, while they’re going through classes, they’re earning points and they can go to our Baby Boutique and buy all the diapers and wipes and clothes and cribs and strollers and all the things that they need,” said Weaver.

Weaver says the numbers clearly show that the need exists in Seguin. She says that’s why they are moving forward with their plans for the new building.

“There is a big need in Seguin and we are so excited about the possibility of a new building. The Koehler Company is going to build it for us, and First United Bank is (financing) us,” said Weaver.

The ground breaking was held earlier this month at its proposed new location, at 1348 E. Kingsbury St.  Donations to the South Texas Pregnancy Care Center can be made online at southtexaspregnancycarecenter.com. Those currently in need of services can stop by the center’s current location, at 975 W. Court St.

Weaver made her comments during a recent meeting of the Seguin City Council.
