(Seguin) — The Boerne softball team used big innings and good pitching to get a 12-1 road win over Seguin on Tuesday night.
Four run innings in the second and fourth along with a three run inning in sixth spelled doom for the Lady Matadors as Boerne was able to string together hits leading to the non-district win.
Following the game, Seguin head coach John Garcia credited Boerne for being patient at the plate.
“We had some hiccups there on defense. We were having a hard time finding the strike zone and they were being patient and taking us deep in the count and putting us back on the defensive instead of the offensive end.” Garcia said. “And when they put the ball in play, we just sometimes seemed like we weren’t ready to make plays.”
Seguin loaded the bases in the bottom of the first and sixth innings, but Boerne pitcher Eva Rodriguez was able to escape unscathed each inning. The Lady Mats scored their lone run on a fielder’s choice ground out from Ashlie Aguilar in the second inning scoring Kendall Hurt who reached base on a hit by pitch.
Seguin falls to 10-3-1 on the season. The Lady Matadors will next host the Seguin softball tournament. Games will be held at the fields at Huber Ranch starting on Thursday. Seguin’s first game is at Noon on Thursday against Los Fresnos.
