(Seguin) – The host of one of the most iconic animated educational children’s televisions series ever to premiere on Nickelodeon will be in Seguin tonight to share not only his fondest memories on the TV program Blue’s Clues but those events that have kept him busy up until now.
Steve Burns who hosted the pre-school program from 1996 to 2002 will be tonight’s guest speaker during the free program at Texas Lutheran University’s Jackson Auditorium.
The show followed “an animated, blue-spotted dog named Blue as she leaves a trail of clues/paw prints for the host and the viewers, in order to figure out her plans for the day.”
The program was described as the highest-rated show for preschoolers on American commercial television and was critical to Nickelodeon’s growth. It is still identified as “one of the most successful, critically acclaimed, and ground-breaking preschool television series of all time.”
Following the original show, the series was rebooted as Blue’s Clues and You, with Burns serving as frequent writer, director, and producer.
According to TLU’s website, “as a speaker, Burns refines and re-examines the message of empowerment and exceptionalism he delivered to a generation of children-carrying the thoughtful, care-driven conversation he began in their childhoods into their now-hoods as they struggle with the demands and realities of adulting.”
As a musician, Burns is also noted for collaborating with Grammy award winners. They include The Flaming Lips, with whom he released the critically acclaimed album songs ‘For Dustmites and Foreverywhere, an album for children in 2016. TLU also notes that Burns wrote and performs the theme son for Young Sheldon on CBS.
He also remains a frequent host and storyteller for NPR’s The Moth.
Burns’ visit to Seguin is made possible once again thanks to the TLU Jessie S. and Jack Harold Upton Brown Cultural Endowment Fund.
The free event will be held today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Jackson Auditorium.
