(Marion) — The Marion Lady Bulldogs completed a season sweep of Nixon-Smiley at home Tuesday night, knocking off the Lady Mustangs 53-34. Marion improved to 5-1 in District 26-3A as they kicked off the second half of their district schedule.

The Lady Bulldogs took a 28-17 lead into the locker room at the half, but Nixon-Smiley cut the lead down to five at 33-28 with about 2 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter forcing 2nd year Marion head coach Cassandra Robinson to call a time-out.

“I saw us going through the motions and we didn’t have that momentum that we had in the first half and I told them that it’s gonna take everybody on the court to wanna do their job and to be able to do their part.” Robinson said. “We know that we have earned a target somewhat from this past year and a half solidifying this foundation that we brought in and these girls understood the words being said in that timeout and they executed.”

The Lady Bulldogs would respond with a 5-0 run to end the quarter to push their lead to 38-28. Marion outscored Nixon-Smiley 15-6 in the 4th quarter.

Senior forward Sarah Cook scored 16 points and passed 1000 points in her career in the Lady Bulldogs’ victory. Sophomore forward Breelon Allen had 13 while senior guard Signe Rabenaldt had a game high 23 points. Marion will host Pleasanton on Friday night in a non-district game.
