Frozen adventures await families this weekend
(Seguin) — Seguin is invited to join a few of your favorite characters for a fun and frozen adventure. Tickets remain for Circus on Ice: The Amazing Tour. Local families will watch as the stage at Seguin High School’s Performing Arts Center is transformed into some magic ice for a pair of performances this Saturday.
Among those who will be entertaining families is Matti the Clown. Matti, a.k.a. Matthew Esqueda says the entertainment company is excited to kick off its first tour weekend of 2023 here in Seguin.
“We are the Amazing Tour. There are two tours out this year and our tour that is coming to your town is called Amazing and the reason why it is called Amazing is because we are bringing a mixture of ice dancers, ice skaters, circus acts, circus thrill acts and myself, the clowning part of the show,” said Esqueda.
In fact, this will be the first time, that the Circus on Ice act will debut in Texas. Esqueda says after years of success up north, the company has finally decided to bring that freezing fun down South.
“They started originally a few years ago just on the East Coast and it was so successful, and they saw such a great turnout and people really enjoying it — that they decided to expand the company this way they can get more of Texas, Central America and the West Coast as well because there is quite a lack of these type of ice (shows). What is unique is we are able to come into smaller theaters and smaller communities and bring this sort of entertainment where it’s all about our family entertaining yours,” said Esqueda.
There’s no doubt that families have questioned or have been intrigued on how the SHS Performing Arts Center will host such an attraction. But according to Esqueda, it’s a transformation worth experiencing.
“So, the ice rink, it’s a synthetic ice so it’s basically it’s a hard type and very slippery as well plastic that goes down on top of the stage itself. So, it’s not a real frozen ice. It’s a plastic ice where the skaters skate, probably around 98 percent — they told me — equivalent to skating on real ice. So, that is how we can bring it to like a performing arts center or theater throughout these communities that don’t necessarily get the bigger ice shows because they don’t have the large arenas or the facilities to facilitate these shows so we decided to make it a little bit more compact — something that would fit more into communities that don’t get these types of entertainment,” said Esqueda.
A limited number of tickets remain for both performances so families are asked to secure their tickets as soon as possible.
“If you come out to our performances, we have two this Saturday here at the high school performing arts center at 4 and 6:30 p.m. Just make sure you come out about 45 minutes early because most seats are general admission seating. This way you can get a better seat, choose your seat. It does tend to get full,” said Esqueda.
General admission tickets are $19.99 for children (age 2 to 12) and $29.99 for adults.
