(Seguin) — Voters in District 8 have chosen their next representative on the Seguin City Council.
Bill Keller defeated Edward “Eddie” Davila Jr. during Tuesday’s runoff election. Keller jumped out to an early advantage when totals from the early voting period were released just after 7 p.m. The race wouldn’t get much closer throughout the night, as Keller captured the seat.
Keller says he’s thrilled that he’s being given this opportunity to serve the public.
“It was a long campaign. It was almost five months, with the with the runoff. I met a lot of good people. I got a lot of support. I went door to door, twice. I had so much support from so many good people, and I just want to thank them. I’m a little choked up, but it was kind of an old-fashioned campaign. No social media. I just did door to door, signs, and radio; and it worked out wonderfully well. I just appreciate all the support everybody gave me. I’m just overwhelmed,” said Keller.
Keller says he’s looking forward to getting started and helping the city to deal with the rapid growth that’s been coming Seguin’s way.
I want to follow the course on the growth that we’re having, and make sure that we’re doing this right,” said Keller. “That’s the main thing that I can see right now. That’s going to be a very, very important thing.”
Davila says he was disappointed with the outcome, but he remains committed to doing everything that he can to help make Seguin a better place. Even though he lost, he says he’s proud of the campaign that he ran for this seat.
“We left nothing on the table I believe. You know I can’t really express how much appreciation I have for the voters that did turn out, that did go out and vote, (and) how much I appreciation I have for my campaign team. The people that knocked on doors, that called, that text, (that posted on) social media. Everything from the voters to the walkers. I just I just can’t express how much I appreciate their support,” said Davila.
Davila says that he still plans to be active in the community, and he wants to continue to help Seguin and its people prosper.
“Yeah, I may have lost this campaign. I may have lost this District 8 race, but I’m not stopping this. This is an opportunity to learn — to continue to learn what the voters want, and what the voters expect in the city as a whole. I still believe that Seguin has a has a way to go. I believe that we, you know, we’ve got a corner to turn with the growth that’s coming, I’m going to do everything I can to stay involved and to do what I can for the city, for the community, for the youth, for the older generation, for everybody. Just like I always do,” said Davila.
Keller received 341 votes, while Davila received 226 votes. Keller will now take over the seat that’s been held by Councilman Mark Herbold for the last eight years. Herbold was not eligible to seek reelection due to the city’s term limits.
