Lawrence Frank Mikes


Lawrence Frank Mikes was called Home to the Lord on December 24, 2022, at the age of 83. He was born to Adolph and Edith Mikes on November 13, 1939, in Shiner, Texas. He was the oldest of 4 brothers.

The family later moved to Luling, Texas where Adolph ran the ice plant there while raising his 4 sons. Lawrence graduated from Luling High School and shortly afterwards enlisted in the Army where he served as a Combat Engineer and Sharpshooter. After being honorably discharged he served in the National Guard until 1969. 

Lawrence met Marilyn Byars in 1965 in a blind date. They later married in November 1966. Lawrence and Marilyn celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary last year. They had 2 daughters, Debbie and Nanette.

Lawrence worked many years in the electrical business. After retiring, Lawrence enjoyed being active in his church, Lions Club, American Legion, and many community organizations. He loved to BBQ, watch sports and making his grandchildren and great-grandchildren laugh. 

Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Edith Mikes; brothers, Ermin Mikes and Allen Mikes; sisters-in-law, Noreen Mikes and Luella Mikes. 

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Marilyn Byars Mikes; daughters, Debbie (Robert) Burt and Nanette Mikes; grandchildren, Shelby Burt, Travis (Wesleigh) Burt, and Kai Lakyn; great-grandchildren, Brody, Case, and Cora; brother, Raymond Mikes; sisters-in-law, Jeanette (David) Leese, Patty (Johnnie) Haas as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Blanco and First United Methodist Church of Seguin. 

Visitation will be at Palmer Mortuary on Friday, January 6, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A brief viewing will continue on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Blanco United Methodist Church: 61 Pecan St, Blanco, Texas 78606 beginning at 12:30 p.m. A Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. and interment will be at Blanco Cemetery.
