Gifting radio listeners with the sounds of the season

Koennecke Chorus takes to the airwaves during annual community tour

(Seguin) – Koennecke Chorus students took their show on the road this past week bringing the sounds of the holidays to all those on this year’s second annual community tour schedule. Among the stops was Seguin Radio KWED. Sounds, pg. 3
Sounds, continued.

The elementary school students gathered around the on-air microphone as KWED’s Linda Duncan introduced the group and prepared listeners for some of the best sounds of the season.

“Everybody’s singin’ fa, la, la … Everybody’s singing fa la, la, la….”

Leading the group of approximately 60 kids was Choir Teacher Antonio Noriega. Noriega says caroling around town has turned into a holiday tradition for the local campus.

“Every school year, I like to take the Koennecke Chorus, our Koennecke Choir on tour around the city of Seguin to spread some holiday cheer with fun holiday music. That usually includes some traditional Christmas carols like Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and some other multi-cultural tunes like a song that you are about to hear right now called Noche de paz, which is a Spanish version of Silent Night and so we do this tour every year. It’s a blast. We love doing it and we are especially really excited to be at the radio station today,” said Noriega.

And as promised, Noriega directed his group with a bilingual version of Silent Night….

“Noche de paz, noche de amor,
Todo duerme en derredor.
Entre sus astros que esparcen su luz….”

Not only could they sing, but these students could also provide some very good answers about being a part of the Koennecke Chorus and about sharing in the celebration during this annual tour around the community.

Taking the mic first and speaking to radio listeners was student Caylee Dwyer.

“So my name is Caylee Dwyer and this experience is my first year in the Koennecke Chorus and I really like this field trip and tour and it’s been such an exciting experience to be able to sing with all of these amazing people,” said Dwyer.

Rebecca Crain also chimed in with her thoughts about being a part of this school program.

“My name is Rebecca Crain as well as Caylee, this is my first year in the Koennecke Chorus and as much as I can do, I have to say that this is one of the best things that I have ever joined, and I have an amazing choir teacher and music teacher Mr. Noriega and I really like it because of the experience of singing and helping our vocals out. It really is a fun experience to learn,” said Crain.

Wrapping up the live interviews – and with no script in hand for these kids — Elizabeth Adams also shared a little bit about the Wednesday afternoon experience.

“Hi, I’m Elizabeth Adams and the joy for me is well it makes me feel happy to spread the joy around to other people. They hear music and the joy with Christmas songs, and it makes our whole choir feel happy and it really helps a lot with other people,” said Adams.
Even while making their way out of the studios, students made sure to leave their message behind for all KWED listeners.
“Good tidings for Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Oh, bring us some figgy pudding
Oh, bring us some figgy pudding
Oh, bring us some figgy pudding
And bring it right here….”

Other stops on this year’s Koennecke Choral tour included the Seguin ISD Central Offices, Barnes Middle School and the Seguin High School campus.
