Volunteers enjoying their time spent at the kettle post

Seguin Noon Lions Club members Milt Watson and Bill Ermel give of their time this holiday season by being one of the dozens of volunteers to serve the Seguin Salvation Army’s Kettle Bell Campaign outside the Seguin Walmart store. Folks have only five more days left in which to donate to the red kettles.

Kettle Bell Campaign volunteers continue to give this holiday season

(Seguin) — Kettle Bell volunteers remain hard at work this holiday season.

Volunteer Bill Ermel was among those knocking out a morning shift Monday outside the Seguin Walmart Store. Ermel, representing the Seguin Noon Lions Club, says ringing the bell for the Seguin Salvation Army is always a good time.

“I love to this every year. I look forward to it. It’s amazing how open people in Seguin are about giving,” said Ermel.

Fellow Lion Milton Watson says he too comes back year after year.

“I’ve been doing this for about 15 years and it’s a blessing and I would encourage anybody to do it,” said Watson.

Volunteers have been filling up the two-hour time slots on the schedule ever since the Kettle Bell Campaign launched the day after Thanksgiving.

With Christmas now only 6 days away, Watson says it’s crunch time to collect as much money as possible for the Salvation Army which assist local families with emergency needs such as travel, hotels, rent, utilities etc.

“And one thing that people don’t realize is all the money we collect here, stays right here in Seguin,” said Watson.

Ermel says there are still many spots open and encourages anyone to come out and do their part.

“People need to volunteer. This is an opportunity to help their community and they need to take it,” said Ermel.

The goal for this year’s campaign is to raise $40,000.
