Local student’s artwork selected as this year’s design
(Seguin) – Don’t forget to warm up this holiday season with the annual Sip ‘n Stroll mug. The 2022 Sip ‘n Stroll mugs feature the historic Seguin landmark of Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church’s Chapel. Saint Andrew’s was founded in 1853, with the building being completed in 1876. Encouraging fellowship, education, environmental conservation, youth advocation, activism and more, St. Andrews has remained a sanctuary for the community.
The committee for the 2022 Sip ‘n Stroll has chosen an art piece created by Lydia Shanafelt, a senior at Navarro High School. Shanafelt created the piece of art using watercolor and ink.
“I have been exposed to art my whole life. My grandfather is a local artist who likes painting Seguin landmarks,” remarked Shanafelt.
Inspired by the passion her grandfather had for art, Shanafelt competed in a Pecan Fest sidewalk chalk contest, and won first place at age 6. Shanafelt’spassion for art since has only grown, looking for challenges in artistry. She found that challenge after her grandmother suggested she enter the contest to develop artwork for the Sip ‘n Stroll mug. Shanafelt portrait of St. Andrew’s will be featured on the 2022 annual Sip ‘n Stroll Mug.
The mugs featuring the Chapel will be available at Gift & Gourmet and Keeper’s Interiors until they are sold out. This is the 12th year for the tradition of the Sip ‘n Stroll mugs and officials they are selling out faster every year.
“We strongly encourage people to purchase their mugs early, as these mugs have become collectible items for locals and visitors,” suggested Dana Hall, president of the Downtown Business Alliance, “The proceeds from the mug sales will benefit the alliance and our efforts to market and beautify downtown Seguin.”
