More details released behind officer involved shooting at local truck stop

(Seguin) — The suspected car thief who was shot and killed by a Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper outside the Love’s Truck Stop nearly two weeks ago has been identified as only a 16-year-old male juvenile.

The identities of the victim, an 18-year-old male passenger, who also sustained injuries in the incident, and the DPS Trooper involved will not be released at this time in order to protect the integrity of this ongoing investigation by the Texas Rangers.

Officials say on Friday Oct. 28 at approximately 7:41 pm., Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded to the truck stop on Interstate 10 west of Seguin.

Preliminary investigation indicates a Guadalupe County Deputy Constable located a suspected stolen pickup truck at the truck stop. A DPS Trooper assigned to Guadalupe County and a Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived on scene to assist the Deputy Constable. The Trooper then exited his vehicle and attempted to conduct a high-risk traffic stop.

The driver of the pickup truck (the 16-year-old male) reversed the vehicle striking the front of the Deputy Constable’s patrol car. The trooper opened fire striking the driver. The driver was pronounced deceased on scene. The passenger was struck and transported by ground to BAMC in San Antonio. The vehicle was later confirmed stolen out of Schertz and was identified as a 2019 Ram 1500.

Officials say there were no other passengers or individuals involved in the incident.
