(Seguin) — There are new changes in how the city of Seguin does some of its business. Propositions A-J each received voter approval during Tuesday night’s general election. Voters approved the list of 10 ballot items that were put before them by the city of Seguin. City officials say each of the ballot propositions, although different, focused on changing the way that the city of Seguin does business – and as outlined by its charter.

Proposition A approved changes to the language found in the charter regarding term limits particularly the amount of time that an appointee to the city council can spend serving during a vacancy. A total of 5,148 votes were cast in favor of this item while 2,030 votes were cast against it.

Voters also approved Proposition B which gives the city the authority to hold fewer council meetings than its current number of two per month. A total of 5,791 votes were cast in favor of the change while 1,439 votes were cast against it.

Voters also sounded off on allowing the city to do away with publishing official city information in the local newspaper of record. Instead, the city was seeking approval to post the required information on social medial sites as well as on the city’s website.

The Propositions that included such transitions into a more electronic format were C, G, I and J.

The outcome of that decision for Prop C was 5,348 in favor and 1,810 against. Proposition G garnered 5,133 votes in favor and 1,929 against. A similar split in the outcome was reported for Proposition I which had 5,786 votes in favor and 1,313 against. Proposition J also received voter approval with 5,991 votes in favor and 1,150 votes against.

Rounding out the list of Propositions were D, E, F and H.

Proposition D gives the city council the authority to appoint an associate municipal judge plus allows those presiding judges to live outside of the Seguin city limits. Confirming that change in the charter were 5,405 votes in favor of the item and 1,685 against.

Voters also agreed to Proposition E which allows the city attorney to appoint future assistant city attorneys if necessary. The results of that race were 4,240 for and 2,831 votes against.

More time was also approved for the city in presenting its annual budget to the council. The voter approved change in Proposition F provides an additional two weeks or 14 days to bring that budget before the city council. The final vote count was 5, 183 votes in favor of those additional days and 1,880 against them.

Finally, the approval of Proposition H changes the way that a budget is provided to anyone requesting it. Instead of paper copies, the city will now rely on providing electronic copies of that budget to the public.

The switch to electronic copies was made possible with 5,671 votes in favor and 1,412 votes against the electronic upgrade.
