(College Station) — High school playoffs football are here. College Station is where the Seguin Matadors will be on Friday night as they take on A&M Consolidated at Tiger Stadium in the UIL Class 5A Region 3 Division 1 Bi-District round. Consol is the top seed out of District 11-5A while the Mats finished 4th in District 12-5A.
The Tigers are a perennial playoff team. They finished 6-1 in district, tied with Georgetown and College Station. A&M Consolidated earned the top seed by winning the point differential tiebreaker in the games played between the teams.
Seguin has qualified for the playoffs for 5 straight seasons, extending a school record. The Mats finished 4-3 in district. Matador head coach Craig Dailey has lead his Alma Mater to the postseason in both of his two years at Seguin and he says Friday’s playoff will be battle between two young quarterbacks who are very familiar with each other.
“They start a young quarterback too, a sophomore (Will Hargett). He and my son (freshman Corey Dailey) work with the same 7-on-7 organization. So it’s gonna be fun to see two young quarterbacks (who) work out together kinda go at it. (A&M Consolidated) does a good job of getting their play makers the ball on offense. Defensively, they’re probably the biggest d-line we’ve seen the whole year. They run a base 4-3 and (they) try to keep everything in front and make you earn it down the field. So it’s gonna be a challenge up front to handle their d-linemen.”
Friday night’s Bi-District playoff kicks off at 7 p.m. at Tiger Stadium. We’ll have all the play-by-play action for you starting with the Matador Pre-game show where we’ll talk more with coach Dailey at 6:30 on AM 1580 and streaming online worldwide at SeguinToday.com.
