Local voters to consider items appearing on Nov. 8 ballot
(Seguin) – If you want to take advantage of the convenience of early voting, then today is the last day in which to do so. Early voting ends today in the Nov. 8 election which not only includes federal and state items but also city, county, and school district races. Early voting hours will be held today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
At the end of the day Wednesday, a total of 30,456 ballots had already been cast in Guadalupe County.
Based on where they live in the county, voters are reminded that they will have up to 10 local ballots in which to consider. The local entities within Guadalupe County which are holding elections include the City of Seguin, City of Cibolo, the City of Schertz, the City of Universal City, Seguin ISD, Marion ISD, Navarro ISD, Prairie Lea ISD, Green Valley Special Utility District and Meadow Lake WCID No. 1.
One of the longest ballots will be in the city of Seguin. The ballot for the city will include 10 ballot issues that deal with changes to the city’s charter. Some of these decisions found in City of Seguin Propositions A to J involve changes to term limits, a look into more of the digital trend when it comes to the publication of the city’s budget including its public notices specifically those printed in newspapers, to publish notice of franchises on the city website, the publication of city utilities on the city’s web site and changes to provisions that deal with how it sets its regular city council meeting dates, the appointment of judges to its municipal court, to remove the requirement of the council to set the salary for the city attorney and to provide a procedure for the hiring of assistant city attorneys as needed.
City voters will also be deciding on their next city council representative for Districts 3 and 8.
Guadalupe County voters will mark their ballot in the race for Guadalupe County Judge. Incumbent Kyle Kutscher will appear on the ballot with challenger and Libertarian candidate Nolan Schmidt.
Seguin ISD voters will also be casting their ballots for Trustee District 7. They will also be deciding on two bond propositions totaling $138.5 million.
Proposition A of the bond package includes a new McQueeney Elementary School, additions and renovations to Jim Barnes Middle School, an agricultural science facility, school safety and security enhancements, and other districtwide projects.
Proposition B is for a new baseball and softball complex at Seguin High School.
Marion ISD voters will also be deciding on new facilities to address needs at the high school with its own $50 million bond issue.
Voters in the Navarro ISD will also be casting their ballots in the at-large contest for board of trustees.
A total of eight candidates are vying for one of the four available seats up for grabs. When heading to the polls, it’s important to note that individuals will be voting for none, two, three or four times for one candidate. They will also be permitted to vote up to four times for one candidate.
Guadalupe County early voting locations include the Seguin Elections Office, the Seguin ISD Central Office, Cibolo Fire Station #2; Central Texas Technology Center, Redemptive Grace Fellowship; New Berlin City Hall, and the Schertz Elections Office Annex.
