(Seguin) — Local candidates are continuing to campaign for your vote. Today, Seguin Radio KWED and the Seguin Daily News hears from the trio of candidates vying for the Seguin City Council District 8 seat.
Looking to replace longtime councilman Mark Herbold who no longer can run due to term limits are candidates Bill Keller, Eddie Davila and Steven Berger.
During KWED’s featured Saturday Topic Radio program, each were given a chance to share why he was in the end the best candidate for the job.
Keller says why he doesn’t look to compare his abilities, he is confident in serving the community just as he has in various other roles over the last 43 years.
“I’ve worked with two city boards. I’ve worked with parks and recreation and building and standards. I have chaired both of those, so I know the inner workings of city hall and working with city staff. Those are good people and I’ve been Rotary club where I was president. I’ve done the mentor program. I was Mentor of the Year, really enjoyed working the young people and Shery; Sachtleben put together a wonderful program. I’ve been president of two different church councils, and I don’t know that a lot of people can say that. I was president of St. James and also Faith Lutheran. I’ve done a lot of things in town. I’ve been in 20 shows, 20 stage productions. The teamwork that I have learned and the work ethic for 25 years at CMC has been invaluable. I think I can carry that over into the city council work as well. And I’m retired. I am there pretty much all the time if anybody needs to contact me. I want to be the voice of the people. I’m not going to take my personal opinion necessarily into something. I’m going to listen to what folks have to say,” said Keller.
Davila says he is also wanting to continue his long-standing tradition of serving the community and believes he has the integrity, honesty and transparency to do so. Davila is confident that he will always do what is best for the citizens and the city as a whole.
“I believe my body of work in the community speaks for itself. I believe that you will recognize that I am passionate about serving Seguin and the area. I believe that you will see that when I decide to do something that I am going to get it done and I’m going to work to get it done. Now, you may not always agree with you and I may not always agree with you but I will always do what is right for the city of Seguin. I am passionate about this role that I’m about to undertake with a seat on the city council for Seguin. I’d run campaigns before. I’ve run for other offices and they always tell me ‘don’t talk about those’ but you’ve got to learn how to lose before you can win and I believe that Seguin has told me ‘here’s what we expect. Here is what we want from you’ and I believe that this time gaining that seat for District 8 and earning the confidence of the voters in District 8 is what I need to do to be most effective at this time,” said Davila.
Berger says he too is ready to invest in the position. He promises to also be transparent and work for his district by being a voice for their concerns. He says as the city anticipates this new growth, he commits to remaining focused on “growing smart as a city.”
“I have a strong work ethic. I work well with others on tackling issues, and I care about the citizens of our great city. I am willing to stand up for what issues our residents are concerned about and make them a priority. We are all in this together and we need strong leaders on city council that will work in the best interest of our residents here in Seguin and I strongly feel that I am one of those candidates that can get the job done,” said Berger.
Two separate Seguin City Council races will be appearing on the Nov. 8 ballot. Residents living in District 3 will also be voting for new representation. Those candidates seeking the position are Jim Lievens and Darius Gil. Both are seeking the seat currently held by Chris Aviles, who decided not to seek re-election.
