(Seguin) — If you visit the pumpkin patch this weekend at First United Methodist Church, then you might go home with more than just a pumpkin. A special Puppies in the Patch adoption and Blessing of the Animals event is scheduled for this Saturday.
Pastor Ray Perales says for the last several years, the patch has been the perfect site to match folks up with a new best friend.
“One of the shelters brings some puppies over for adoption. The last few years, we’ve had great success. I think two years ago, we got to adopt out every puppy that came. Last year, I think there were a couple that didn’t get adopted out so that was very successful,” said Perales.
Perales says making the day even more special for animals will be pastors who will be on standby in the church’s prayer garden. There they will extend that special blessing to fur babies, feathered friends and even those exotic reptiles.
“On the 22nd of October, we’ve got the blessing of the animals. That’s been very successful and of course, we welcome anybody to bring their animals and that’s not just dogs – dogs, cats, gerbils, guinea pigs, horses. If they bring a horse or a cow, we will bless the horse or the cow also. That’s just never happened – well at least since I’ve been there,” said Perales.
All small animals should be in cages while all dogs and puppies must be on a leash. The church says they are excited to be partnering with Seguin Animal Services who will have dogs ready for on-site adoption.
The event will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The FUMC pumpkin patch is located at 710 N. Austin St.
The church that day is also scheduled to host its second annual church rummage sale. The rummage sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
