Marion Volleyball Team Falls at Home to First Place Randolph in Front of Packed House

Marion Bulldog volleyball team gets ready to return serve vs. Randolph.



(Marion) — In a battle for first place in District 26-3A on the volleyball court, the Marion Bulldog volleyball team fell to Randolph in four sets on Tuesday night in front of a capacity crowd at Marion High School. Marion took the first set 25-20 and then the Lady Ro-Hawks stormed back taking the next three by scores of25-22, 25-13 and 25-16. The win kept the first place Lady Ro-Hawks perfect in district with a record of 10-0. Marion saw their five-game winning streak snapped dropping their record to 8-2 in district.

Following the match, Marion head coach Melissa Mitchell Schuetz said her team ran out of gas mentally but she was proud of the team’s effort.

“We lost some gas but I wouldn’t say physically. It was more mentally, but the girls played hard. They trained hard for this one. We knew what the crowd was gonna be like. I’m proud of them, very proud. Not happy with the result but very proud.”

Senior outside hitter Hayley Mabee had 15 kills for Marion. Sophomore setter Bristin Birdwell lead the way with 12 digs and junior setter Kacee McLendon had 27 assists. Marion will be back at home this Friday to host Great Hearts Northern Oaks.

Over in Seguin, the Lady Matadors fell in 4 sets last night to Kerrville Tivy 25-7, 24-26, 25-22 and 25-17. The Lady Matadors are in 6th place in District 26-5A with a record of 4-9. Seguin will next host Canyon on Friday.

And in Geronimo, the Navarro Lady Panthers were a winner over Boerne Tuesday night, taking the match in four sets 25-19, 22-25, 25-22 and 25-20. Navarro is 7-4 in District 27-4A. The Lady Panthers travel to Wimberley on Friday.
