(Buda) — Seguin senior Devin Matthews ran through the Hays defense on a 71-yard touchdown run with no time left on the clock as the Matadors beat the Hawks 41-34 at Bob Shelton Stadium on Friday night. The touchdown run ended a series of wild swings in the final two minutes between the two teams.
Down by seven, the Hawks scored on a one-yard touchdown run by quarterback Tyler McInvale with exactly 2 minutes left to tie the score at 34. On the following kickoff, a Matthews return for a touchdown was called back on a penalty on Seguin. The Matadors would march into Hays territory on the ensuing drive, but would lose the ball with 18 seconds left on a fumbled exchange between quarterback Corey Dailey and running back Jakyari Matthews.
The Hawks would take the ball and drive down to the Seguin 29 yard line. Hays junior kicker Cameron Noto would miss a 46-yard field attempt leaving one second on the clock. On the next play, Matthews would follow a caravan of blockers on the right side after taking a handoff from Dailey and race through the Hays secondary and down the right sideline to win the game for the Matadors on the final play of the game.
The last second win keeps the Matadors unbeaten in District 12-5A play with a record of 4-0. Seguin is tied for first place in the district with Smithson Valley. The Matadors will return home next Friday to host the Canyon Cougars. The Cougars are tied for third place in the district at 3-1.

Overtime? We're talking about overtime?
Not with @Seguin_Football. Not with @DevooTAKEflight. Best ending to a game I've done color for. @FlxAtx @SA_HCPreps @dctf @Matt_Stepp817 #SportsCenterTop10 pic.twitter.com/yL2QFlad6i
