(Seguin) — Even before gates officially open tonight, a total of 1,100 kids would have already experienced their own VIP backstage experience to this year’s Guadalupe County Fair and PRCA Rodeo. That’s according to Gail Damerau, a member of the fair association’s board of directors.

Damerau says half of these kids have already visited the fair during the annual school tours to its Barnyard Petting Zoo. Damerau says the experience started Wednesday when kids from area schools and daycares stopped by for the school tour dubbed “A Bunch of Party Animals.”

“We’ve had a lot of excited kids today. Every different direction — they are just learning about agriculture and absorbing everything they can and it’s been a great day,” said Damerau.

Today will mark day two for the school tours. She says this particular event is not only an important component to the fair association’s overall mission but it creates plenty of precious memories for these children.

“This year, we’ve got a barnyard station where the kids get to get in and see different animals and then, we’ve got a station with baby chicks and we have a story station where the ladies are reading a story to them and we have the Texas Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom exhibit trailer and then we have a tractor station. They can learn all about tractors and then on over to our rodeo area, we have a horse demonstration with a digestive system painting on the side of it so the kids get to learn about a horse,” said Damerau.

Today’s school tours to the Barnyard Petting Zoo get underway at 8:30 a.m. and will continue into the afternoon just hours before the gates officially open at 5:30 p.m.
