Matadors to Host Boerne-Champion Friday Night

Seguin Football Twitter

(Seguin) — After bye weeks area high school football teams will be back on the grid-iron tomorrow night. The Seguin Matadors host the Boerne-Champion Chargers at Matador Stadium. The Mats are 2-0 and tied atop the District 12-5A standings with Smithson Valley and Hays. The Chargers are 0-2 in district play and face what could be considered a must-win game tomorrow night.

Seguin head coach Craig Dailey says the team’s mindset is to treat tomorrow’s game and the games for the rest of the season like playoff games.

“We face it like a playoff game. That’s what we told (our team) at the beginning of practice this week. We’ve got to up our intensity. We’ve got to up our focus. This is playoff football now. We’re fighting for a chance to play in the 5A state playoffs now and the kids (have) prepared well this week.”

The Matadors beat Lehman at Matador Stadium and San Antonio MacArthur on the road to get to 2-0 in district. Meanwhile Champion dropped games at Canyon and at home to Hays. Dailey says he expects the Chargers to throw the ball a lot on offense and bring pressure on defense.

“Offensively, they’re gonna throw the ball 40 plus times a game. That’s what they look to do. They’re gonna go as fast as they can and throw the ball around the yard. Defensively, they play a lot of twist games up front with their two inside linebackers and (they) bring them almost every play. So, they’re a pressure defense and offensively they try to throw the ball all over the place.”

Tomorrow night’s game kicks off at 7:30 at Matador Stadium. We’ll have the game for you here on KWED. The Navarro Panthers and Marion Bulldogs are in action tomorrow after bye weeks as well. The Panthers travel to Lago Vista and the Bulldogs host Blanco. We’ll talk with both Navarro head coach Rod Blount and Marion head coach Ryne Miller during our High School Football Friday night coverage starting at 6:45 tomorrow evening. We’ll have the Panther report followed by the Bulldog report and then we’ll head out to Matador Stadium for the Matador pre-game and chat more with coach Dailey during the Matador Report all on AM 1580 and streaming online worldwide at SeguinToday.com.
