OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — USA Softball announced its 16-player roster and coaching staff that was selected to represent Team USA at the 2022 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Men’s Softball World Championship slated for November 26-December 4 in Auckland, New Zealand. Selected by members of the Men’s National Team Selection Committee, the 2022 Team USA Coaching Staff will have a Texas Lutheran connection as former Texas Lutheran baseball player, Roman Foore ’98 was named a member of the coaching staff as the 2022 team looks to add its 10th WBSC Men’s Softball World Championship medal while competing against 11 other countries: Argentina, Australia, Canada, Cuba, Czech Republic, Denmark, Japan, New Zealand, Philippines, South Africa, and Venezuela. This will be Foore’s first stint as an assistant with Team USA.
After spending time at Normandale CC in Minnesota, Moore would transfer to Texas Lutheran and play for the Texas Lutheran baseball team in 1996 and 1997 – seasons that saw the BUlldogs beat the University of Texas in baseball each season. The 1996 team still holds the school record for wins with 45. While at Texas Lutheran, he also served as a student assistant for the TLU softball team.
Following his playing career at TLU, Foore would spend time with the then American Softball Association’s (ASA) Kegal Black Knights as well as Team USA Men’s Softball team as a first baseman.
Currently, Foore is in his seventh season as an Associate Head Softball Coach at Bethel University (MN) alongside his wife and Bethel head softball coach, Penny. Foore has been an associate head coach with his wife Penny at the professional level in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league and with Scrap Yard Fast Pitch and USSSA Pride. From 2014-2016 Foore was the associate head coach with the Chicago Bandits, helping them to a pair of Cowles Cup championships in the NPF. In 2017, Foore was the head coach of the Texas Charge with five Charge players being named All-NPF. In the summer of 2018, Foore led Scrap Yard Fast Pitch as the head coach. The Scrap Yard team included nine of the 18 current members of the USA National Team.
Foore spent three seasons as an assistant coach at the NCAA DI softball level for both Arizona State and Appalachian State. After serving at Bethel in 2015 and 2016, Foore went to Arizona State for the 2017 season before returning to Bethel in 2018. With Arizona State, Foore worked primarily with the Sun Devil hitters. ASU went to an NCAA Regional and three of Foore’s hitters earned All-PAC honors. While at Appalachian State, Foore was the head recruiter and hitting coach for the Mountaineers. During his tenure ASU won the Southern Conference championship and led all of NCAA DI with an 18-0 home record. The Mountaineers broke the school record for wins in a season and broke hitting records for batting average, homeruns, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, doubles and RBI’s. Coach Foore also helped produce the program’s first All-American.
Foore spent two seasons as an assistant at the University of St. Thomas where he helped the Tommies to a pair of MIAC championships, an NCAA regional runner-up finish and a Third Place finish at the NCAA DIII World Series. Prior to jumping to the college level, Foore spent five seasons as an assistant coach at Eagan High School, where he was named the Assistant Coach of the Year in 2008 after helping the Wildcats to the State Championship.
