(Geronimo) — The Navarro Panthers continue their long running series with the Giddings Buffaloes at Erwin Lee Field in Geronimo tomorrow night. Both teams come into the non-district match-up sporting 1-3 records so far this season and are coming off losses last week. Navarro fell at La Vernia 40-14 and Giddings dropped a 28-7 decision to Burnet at home.
The Panthers have a winning streak over the Buffaloes going back to the 20-16 season, but Navarro Head Coach Rod Blount says their wins over Giddings haven’t been easy.
“Giddings is one of the traditionally strong programs in Texas. They play great football. We’ve been able to come away with the win the last couple of years, but it hasn’t been easy. It’s been something we’ve had to work for (with) late comebacks (and) last second touchdowns. They’re always well coached. They’re great athletes. They play hard. And you always come out better from playing this game. If you make a mistake, they’re gonna expose it. It’s a great series and we love playing them.”
We’ll have tomorrow’s match-up between the Buffaloes and Panthers right here on KWED with a 7:30 kickoff from Erwin Lee Field.
The Marion Bulldogs will start District 13-3A play tomorrow night on the road as they’ll tangle with the Randolph Ro-Hawks. Randolph went unbeaten in non-district play going 4-0. The Bulldogs come into tomorrow night’s match-up after going 3-1 in non-district and Bulldog Head Coach Ryne Miller feels his team is where they should be heading into District play.
“I think we’re right where we want to be. In non-district, we try to schedule tough opponents. (We had) a couple 4A schools in there, a very competitive 3A school. And even our scrimmages, we scrimmaged Hallettsville, a top 5 team in the state. We scrimmaged Poth who is another top 5 team in division two. So, we just want to make sure we give our guys a lot of competition. (And for) our guys to come out 3 an 1 in non-district, (it’s) pretty special.”
We’ll have more with Coach Blount and Coach Miller starting a 7pm tomorrow on High School Football Friday Night on KWED. We’ll have the Bulldog Report at 7 followed by the Panther Report and then play by play with the Panthers and Giddings Buffaloes at 7:30 on AM 1580 KWED and streaming online worldwide at SeguinToday.com.
The Seguin Matadors will continue play in District 12-5A with a Saturday night match-up against the MacArthur Brahmas. Kickoff is set for for 7:05pm at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio. The Mats are looking to improve to 2-0 in district meanwhile the Brahmas are looking for their first district win. We’ll have the game for you on Saturday night. We’ll also have the TLU Bulldogs. Texas Lutheran hosts the Sul Ross State Lobos at Homecoming Saturday night with a 6 O’clock kick on KWED. Our Bulldog pre-game starts at 5:40. We’ll join our Matador pre-game coverage at 6:45 and continue TLU coverage online at TLUBulldogs.com.
