City of Seguin, Seguin ISD, Navarro ISD candidates announced
(Seguin) — Several candidates will appear on the Nov. 8 ballot after meeting Monday’s filing deadline.
In the city of Seguin, there looks to be two contested races out of the four available seats.
Filing for a place on the ballot for District 3 are Jim Lievens and Darius Gil. Both look to replace current Councilman Chris Aviles who has chosen to not seek re-election.
Three candidates will also appear on the ballot for District 8. Candidates include Steven Berger, Bill Keller and Eddie Davila Jr. All three look to replace current Councilman Mark Herbold who is not eligible for another term due to term limits.
The lone candidate in District 5 is Paul Gaytan. Gaytan filed after being encouraged to seek the office by current councilman Jeremy Roy, who chose not to seek another term.
Candidate Jason Biesenbach was also the only candidate to file for a place on the District 7 ballot. Biesenbach looks to fill the vacant seat left behind last year by the resignation of former Councilwoman Penny Wallace.
One of the four seats up for grabs in the Seguin ISD Board of Trustees also resulted in a contested race. Filing for the District 7 seat include Incumbent Glenda Moreno and newcomers Josh Bright and Steve Turner.
Three other seats on the school board will all be unopposed, with each incumbent being the only candidate to file for the seats. District 2 Trustee Alejandro Guerra, District 4 Trustee Linda Duncan and District 5 Trustee Denise Crettenden will all run unopposed.
The filing deadline also produced several candidates for the Navarro ISD Board of Trustees. There are four available seats on the Navarro School Board. Those seats currently belong to Hank Dietert, Donna Gilliam, Tracy Large and Brian Sheffler. Dietert and Gilliam were the only incumbents to see re-election. The lengthy list of candidates also includes Dru Canion, Lacey Gosch, Tank Malinovsky, Eric Monkerud, Dan Reinhard and SeanLuc Tubre.
All candidates had until 5 p.m. Monday to file for a place on one of the ballots.
Incumbent Melissa Sartain, who was appointed to an unexpired term, will also run unopposed for the unexpired term that runs through 2024.
