(Seguin) – Families needing some help filling up their cupboards are reminded to sign-up today for this weekend’s Pop-Up Food Distribution Event. This month’s distribution is being hosted by Guadalupe Regional Medical Center.

Elaine Bennett of GRMC, says families and individuals have until 4 p.m. Friday to register for Saturday’s distribution.

“I would encourage anyone that is need of food to register online and if for some reason, you are not able to do that, please just stop by because we do not want to have anyone go without food especially when we have it available this weekend,” said Bennett.

This weekend’s drive will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. in the back parking lot of GRMC. Vehicles are asked to line up toward the back of the Walmart Store off of Ashby Street.

Bennett says the monthly distributions have been vital to assisting those who need a little food relief. She says these efforts have truly taken a team.

“The Pop Up distribution are through the San Antonio Food Bank whereas the Mega Distributions are through the New Braunfels Food Bank and that’s the difference in the website that you are registering on so this is actually through the San Antonio Food Bank and these are the ones that have been provided for the Seguin area once a month and this has been going on and it has really been a great collaboration with the local churches, First Baptist, Faith Lutheran and then Caterpillar and the hospital so between all of those organizations, the food bank has allowed our community to have a distribution once a month,” said Bennett.

Bennett says this weekend’s drive is the first of two distributions on this year’s schedule that will be hosted by GRMC. She says whether its raising the funds or helping to load up vehicles, GRMC employees are there to help.

“The way that GRMC is committed to the community, our employees, we have an annual Bowl-A-Thon and the funds that we raise from that provides a donation to the San Antonio Food Bank and in return, we get distributions back so this is our way of giving back and our employees are working to serve the community that we provide service to,” said Bennett.

Those needing food assistance are asked to register at https://freshtrak.com/register/event/85373. Volunteers are also needed and are asked to arrive at 8 a.m. Saturday. Students that need volunteer hours are also encouraged to assist. However, an adult must accompany the minor. Those wishing to volunteer may register at signupgenius.com.
