Navarro Panthers Working in New Starters for Upcoming Season

(Geronimo) — The Navarro Panthers are in the middle of practices in preparation for the upcoming 2022 season. The Panthers have gone 4-deep into the UIL playoffs the last two seasons and head coach Rod Blount says his team is looking to get over the hump of the 4th round. Blount says he’s pleased so far with where his team is at in the pre-season.

“We’re to the point now where we’re trying to work out the soreness. It’s kinda getting to the kids a little bit, but they’re doing a great job of fighting through that. First week was hard on their bodies. We’re making sure they’re keeping it up well (and) eating right. They’re doing a great job executing and building a little bit each day, so I’m very happy where we are right now.”

Navarro will have 6 new starters on offense including a new quarterback to run their slot-t playbook following the graduation of Nick Billings. Blount says senior Bryce Nall and junior Colton Schuelke have looked good at the quarterback position and he’s looking for the new guys on the offensive line to come together.

“It starts up front. We gotta get those guys on the offensive line meshing and in the right place. Nall is doing a great job so far. His athleticism is pretty special. He’s making some great throws, good reads and (he’s) running the ball as well. Colton Schuelke is doing a great job as well and he’s putting up a fight for that spot.”

Navarro will head up to Fredericksburg to scrimmage with the Billies today and then the Panthers will host Devine for a scrimmage next Thursday. The regular season starts in two weeks for the Panthers with a road date with the Navasota Rattlers.
