(Seguin) — You’re invited to hit the open road throughout Guadalupe County and all for a good cause. Registration is still underway for this weekend’s second annual Raffle Run benefiting the Guadalupe Child Welfare Board. The event is slated for Saturday at Max Starcke Park.
Diane Anderson-Glover, of the Child Welfare Board, says the non-profit group had a great time last year and is expecting even more people to enjoy something that is a bit more creative than a typical poker run. She says folks can participate in a car, truck, van, bus, motorcycle or whatever they wish.
“At 12:30, the raffle run will start and they will got out to up to 10 different locations. This year, we decided to choose a packet or a gift that is going to be given away at each stop. We have a helicopter tour for three that we are going to give away, we’ve got a pontoon boat rental and several other gifts – each gift packet is going to be assigned to a stop and then in order to win that certain gift, you have to go out to that one location to pick up a raffle ticket from the volunteer working and that’s the only way you can win those items,” said Anderson-Glover.
Participants will then head back to the park at 4:30 p.m. The drawing for those prizes will then be held on Facebook beginning at 4:45 p.m.
Anderson-Glover says all proceeds will go to the child welfare board. She says the organization works toward meeting the needs of local children who have been abused or neglected and who have entered the Child Protective Services system.
“It all stays in Guadalupe County to support those children and their needs which include back to school items, Christmas items – we’ve got our Rainbow Room which is like a store where the caseworkers can actually go in and pick cleaning items, lice kits, diapers, formula, kid birthday gifts. Anything that a child needs, we try to have it stocked in the store. We also have gift cards and emergency gift cards and regular gift cards for the children. If they are removed in the middle of the night and they need to go purchase them some clothes that they don’t have in the Rainbow Room, then they can use a gift card,” said Anderson-Glover.
Registration for the Raffle Run on the day of the event will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Max Starcke Park. Entry is $20 per driver and $10 per passenger. Those paying $20 (which also could include passengers) will qualify for that day’s 50/50 raffle. Online registration is available at gccwb.org.
