(Seguin) – A Seguin native looks to “bring it” in front of his hometown crowd as he hits the stage next month with his 11-piece band, “Jumpstart.”
KWED Radio is excited to announce that the Austin band will be providing this year’s live music during its annual Freedom Fiesta. The celebration will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, July 2 in downtown Seguin.
Founder of the variety band is Mike Murillo. Another Seguin native who is part of the band is Randy Zimmermann.
Murillo says he is excited to provide the crowd with a variety of sounds.
“We can play a big variety of mu[1]sic,” Murillo said. “When I say a big variety of music, I’m talking about stuff from the big band era with people like Frank Sinatra on up to the George Straits and all the way up to Lady Gaga. We do it all.”
He says Jumpstart’s full horn section, again has a playlist that can cater to whatever audience shows up that night.
“It’ll be the full band with the horn section,” Murillo said. “I’ve got two female lead singers that are just great and then my male lead singer and we’ll mix up a bunch of dance music, party music, and we will keep it going. It should be fun for people of all ages because we are going to go ahead and mix in some stuff for people that I think will get into some of the big band stuff. We won’t do a whole lot of it. I don’t want to play the whole night of that kind of stuff. We will throw in some country. We’ll probably throw in some Tejano music – you know just to spice it up kind of showcase what we do very well and hopefully, everybody will enjoy it.”
The band is recognized in Austin and in the Central Texas area as a top variety band having performed at various events including at weddings.
KWED General Manager Darren Dunn says Jumpstart’s high-energy performances were among the things that initially captured his attention. He says Freedom Fiesta is coming back in a big way this year and knows that the band is what the Seguin community has been needing.
“They’ve got a talented group of musicians. That’s one of the things that really attracted me to them. They’ve got an 11-piece band. That includes a horn section. The horn section allows them to play all kinds of hits, all kinds of tunes. You will hear songs that will make you want to dance. You will hear songs that you know, and we think that everyone will have a good time as Jumpstart jumpstarts the crowd with their unique blend of sounds for Freedom Fiesta so come on out, check out Jumpstart at Freedom Fiesta 2022,” said Dunn.
Dunn says the band’s connection to Seguin also adds to this summer’s homecoming celebration.
“Jumpstart is a variety band from Austin, but it is much more than that. Jumpstart has a Seguin connection, a couple of its members are from Seguin and because of that we know Jumpstart understands how important Freedom Fiesta is to us and how important Freedom Fiesta is to this community, so Jumpstart is going to bring great sounds to Freedom Fiesta this year,” said Dunn.
Along with live music, KWED will also be welcoming a host of food trucks and a handful of non-profit food vendors. The Knights of Columbus will again partner with KWED in hosting this year’s beer garden.
KWED’s Freedom Fiesta is part of the city of Seguin’s Fourth of July celebration line-up. That lineup continues Sunday, July 3 with the Patriotic Concert at 7 p.m. followed by the city’s Fireworks Fiesta at 9:30 p.m. Events wrap up on Monday, July 4 with a flag raising ceremony in Central Park at 9 a.m. and the Biggest Small Town Fourth of July Parade in Texas at 10 a.m.
