Seguin Fire Department Fan Drive kicks off today

Seguin Fire Department Fan Drive kicks off today

(Seguin) – “Summertime heat and humidity in our area can be relentless.” Those are the words of Seguin Fire Chief Dale Skinner as he helps to launch this year’s Summer Fan Drive.

Skinner says the fan drive which begins today helps to collect and distribute fans for those without air conditioning or those on a fixed income.

“It’s kind of hard to believe that there are families out there to this day that do not have air conditioning. I remember growing up in the 70s and not having an air conditioner in those younger days and it’s hot. It’s miserable. It’s hard to sleep. It’s hard to focus. It’s hard to just survive when all you think about is cooling down,” said Skinner. “The heat of summer is tough for all of us but imagine having to endure the scorching temperatures without air conditioning. Unfortunately, that’s the reality for many families and elderly people in Seguin.”

Skinner says keeping all residents comfortable and safe during hot Texas summers is of course, a top priority for the city’s fire and EMS department.

“Something as simple as a box fan, how much relief that can give a person is the reason why we do what we do. But to help cut down on the instances of any heat emergencies like a heat stroke or exhaustion, if we can prevent any of those just by giving away a box fan than the program has met its purpose,” said Skinner.

The fans are currently available to households within the Seguin city limits that are without air conditioning.

Fans can be picked up at the Municipal Court/Fire Administration building at 660 South Highway 46 between 9 a.m. and 4:30 pm. A picture ID and proof of residency are required. There is a limit one fan per household. Fire officials say if a person received a fan last year, then they are ineligible this year.

Those wishing to donate to the Seguin Fire Department’s Fan Drive, may drop off portable box fans at the Municipal Court/Fire Administration building. They may also contact Lisa Trevino with Seguin Fire/EMS by calling 401-2321 or by emailing ltrevino@seguintexas.gov.
