(Seguin) — The Seguin ISD is celebrating its top teachers. The school district Thursday night named its district winners for the 2021-2022 Teacher of the Year contest.
The winners were selected from a batch of teachers recognized with the title at each of their respective campuses. Named this year’s Elementary Teacher of the Year was Amy Styles of McQueeney Elementary School. Styles who teaches first grade says she was shocked and humbled by the recognition.
“I love what I do and regardless of this award or recognition or not, I just love being in the classroom with my babies. I love it,” said Styles.
Named as this year’s Secondary Teacher of the Year was Aubrie Wells. Wells who serves as a coach and as an AVID teacher at A.J. Briesemeister Middle School says she credits much of her passion and inspiration of being in the classroom to all the other great teachers in the district.
“I’m very surprised because there is a lot of great teachers out there and I got to see people from the alternative school when I mentored there that are retiring and that really got me to see what the Seguin education system was like. So, that was really cool to see that and a lot of people in the district that just work so hard for these students. It’s only my third year teaching so I’m still learning a lot but I think it just takes a lot of passion and emphathy and just putting that grind in for our students and for our staff to just get here and I have had a lot of people support me throughout this whole process so it’s been awesome,” said Wells.
All 13 campus teachers of the year were also recognized for their personal contributions to the classroom. Both Styles and Wells received a plaque and a $500 prize. The Seguin ISD also recognized this year’s retirees along with a number of other employees who have provided the district with 25, 30 or 35 years of service.
