(Seguin) – Seguin police detectives say a 19-year old student at Seguin High School has been arrested after making claims that he was going to bring a gun to school.
Police department officials say they were called out to the school on Wednesday in reference to threats being made by a student. The student has been identified as Joel Placencia, 19, of Seguin.
A Seguin High School teacher reported that Plascencia made a comment that he was “going to bring an AK-47 to the school.” When Plascencia was further questioned by Seguin High School administrators, he admitted to making the comment.
During the course of the investigation, Seguin High School staff revealed that while speaking to another student, Plascencia had allegedly threatened several times that he was going to bring his AK to Seguin High School the following day.
Seguin High School staff made it clear several times to Plascencia that the comments where not a joke and that they needed to stop immediately. Police say their warnings were not heeded, and Plascencia allegedly continued to make threats about bringing a firearm to the school. Seguin High School administrators informed officers that Plascencia was banned from all campuses for the remainder of the school year.
Detectives investigated the incident and an arrest warrant was obtained for Plascencia on one count of Terroristic Threat . The warrant was issued by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Darrell Hunter. Plascencia was later taken into custody at the Seguin Police Department.
The Seguin PD stresses that any threat made that causes or places the public in fear of imminent serious bodily injury is a serious matter, and will be investigated to the fullest extent allowed. Officers are encouraging citizens to report any suspicious activity, alarming social media postings, or concerning comments. Those reports can be made by calling the police department at 830-379-2123.
