(Boerne) – Gianna Ricarte drove in Jaslyne Williams for the winning run with a bunt single in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday night to push Marion past Comfort 2-1 in the 3A bi-district playoffs at Boerne High School.
The series format was a single game, so the Bulldogs (12-20-1) are headed to the area round of the 3A Region IV bracket.
Breyana Gonzales stole home for Marion’s first run in the fifth inning.
The two runs were enough support for Williams in the pitcher’s circle. She notched the complete-game win, allowing a single unearned run on four hits with five strikeouts in seven innings.
Williams and Alyssa Robles reached on errors to start the botom of the seventh, and Williams stole third with one out before sprinting home on Ricarte’s bunt.
Williams, Gonzales, and Ricarte had Marion’s only hits. The Bulldogs stole four bases, with Gonzales, Maggie Luna, Robles, and Williams each swiping one.
Marion advances to face Jourdanton in the area playoffs. The format, times, and locations had yet to be finalized at press time.
