Earl Lee Moseley, Sr.

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today

Earl Lee Moseley, Sr.

Earl Lee Moseley, Sr. was born on April 17, 1930, in Bobo, Texas, to Dewey Itris Mosley and Augusta Barnes. He was one of six children. Raised in the church, Earl began his walk with Christ at an early age and was a longtime member of Second Baptist Church in Seguin, Texas.

Earl obtained his high school diploma from Timpson Colored High School. As a lifelong learner, he went on to obtain his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agriculture from Prairie View A&M University.
Earl served in the United States Army during the Korean War and returned to Texas to start a family.

He married his college sweetheart, Dorothy Friday, and together they raised their four children, Clarence Dewey, Timothy Earl, Earl Lee, Jr., and Lelah Claire with patience, discipline, and humility. He loved being with his family, as a loving husband and adoring grandfather. After the untimely passing of his beloved Dorothy, Earl found love later in life with wife, Erma Jean Scales, who passed away thirteen years later.

Earl was a leader at heart and many examples of this leadership were found in his community involvement in Seguin and the surrounding areas. He was also a driving force during his 40-year career as a civil service laboratory technician at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. Earl dedicated his life to enhancing the lives of African Americans and the community as a whole.

Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Friday; sons, Timothy Earl Moseley & Earl Lee Moseley, Jr; parents, Dewey Itris Mosley & Augusta Barnes; brothers, Delton Mosley & Marshall Eli Mosley; sisters, Irene Demerson & Ollie Faye Brantley.

He is survived by his son, Clarence Dewey Moseley; daughter, Lelah Moseley-Haywood; grandsons, Jeremy Dewayne Richmond & Brannon Frazier Goode; sister, Norma Jean Chappelle; daughters-in-law, Sharon Richmond & Natalie Dawn Haywood; nephew, Jackie Lewis Mosley; niece, Gwendolyn Kay White, and a host of other family and friends.
