Seguin advances athletes to Region IV track and field meet in seven events
(New Braunfels) – The Seguin High School track and field teams had seven athletes in seven events advance through the District 25-26 5A area competition this week at New Braunfels-Canyon to qualify for the upcoming 5A Region IV meet .
Nayla Harris won the gold medal in the girls 100 meter dash with a time of 11.84 seconds and in the long jump with a mark of 17’11”.
Harris helped the 4×100 relay team win the area championship, along with Kyra Nunez, Ashley Lingueno, and Daisha Shular. They won the race with new PR time of 46.75 seconds.
The 4×200 relay team of Nunez, Harris, Shular, and Leah Brown qualified for the regional meet with a fourth-place time of 1:43.28.
Lingueno will compete in the regional 400 meter dash after claiming the bronze medal at the area meet with a time of 57.50 seconds, a new personal record.
J’Dohn Cannon-High qualified for the regional meet in the boys long jump with a third-place area mark of 21’6-3/4″.
Quinton Jones is a regional qualifier in the boys high jump after clearing the bar at 5’10” in the are meet to finish third.
The 5A Region IV track and field meet is Friday and Saturday, April 27-28, at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio.
Navarro track and field produced regional qualifiers in 11 events
(Cuero) – Navarro High School’s track and field teams had athletes qualify for the upcoming 4A Region IV meet in 11 events this week at the District 27-28 4A area competition in Cuero.
Laylin Sturm finished fourth in the girls 100 meters with a time of 12.61 seconds.
Zoe Carter took the silver medal in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.32.
Ryanne Hepp finished fourth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.16 seconds and in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 48.68.
Skylar Blevins took bronze in the long jump (17-5.75), and Sturm finished fourth (17-5). Blevins also finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 36-2.75.
The girls 4×400 relay team of Madison Gilliam, Blevins, Linlee Sturm, and Carter won the gold medal with a time of 4:06.06,
The 4×100 team of Brooklyn Atuna, Blevins, Vanessa Garcia, and Laylin Sturm qualified for the regional meet with a bronze medal time of 50.56 seconds.
Justin Hawes is headed to the regional meet in the boys 300 meter hurdles after finishing fourth among area competitors with a time of 42.12 seconds.
Brody Whitson advanced through the area meet in the boys shot put with a bronze medal throw of 48’9″.
Ian Palmer finished third in the boys discus with a mark of 141′-4″.
Marion athletes qualify for Region IV meet in 12 events
(Marion) – The Marion boys and girls track and field teams combined to advance athletes through the District 25-26 3A area meet and into the upcoming Region IV competition in a total of 12 events this week.
The boys 4×100 relay team of Joel Ayala, Will Rooke, Dominic Castellanos, and Tanner Beakley qualified with a third-place time of 44.59 seconds.
The boys 4×200 unit of Aidan Rios, Jacob Smith, Ayala, and Rooke finished fourth with a time of 1:34.45 seconds.
Rios, Chase Hallmark, Dillon Blakely, and Castellanos claimed third in the 4×400 relay with a time of 3:31.14 to qualify for the regional meet.
Smith finished fourth in the 110 hurdles (16.11), Blakely took fourth in the 300 hurdles (42.64), Castellanos finished third in the long jump (20’11”), and Kade Murdoch took fourth in the discus (136’2″) to advance through the area meet.
Jaslyne Williams snagged the silver medal in the girls 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.86 seconds to qualify for the regional meet.
Maggie Rudisaile took second place in the pole vault (11’0″) and Sunny Knight finished fourth (9’6″) to advance.
Sarah Cook earned the bronze medal in the shot put with throw of 33-6.5 to qualify for the regional meet.
The girls 4×100 relay team of Knight, Williams, Rudisaile, and Maggie Luna advanced with a third-place time of 50.81 seconds.
