Guadalupe County names new Distinguished Young Woman 2022


(Seguin) — Sofia Salazar is the new Guadalupe County Distinguished Young Woman. Salazar recently earned the 2022 title at the Stephen and Mary Birch Texas Theatre.  She succeeds Avery Brown, the 2021-22 title holder.

Salazar is a junior at Navarro High School and was sponsored by Lone Oak Tax Service, El Olvido Haciendo and Second Story Dance. She was also the Scholastic Achievement and Fitness winner. The contest earns her $1,650 in cash scholarships. She also received a scholarship to Texas Lutheran University.  Salazar will advance to compete in the State program tentatively set for January 2023.

First Runner-up was Aly Burns, a junior at Seguin High School. She was sponsored by Alligator Dental and Nancy Seidenberger.  She received $1,000 in cash scholarships.

Taytum Rangel was Second Runner-up and sponsored by Quality Bioresources.  The Seguin High junior was also the Talent and Self Expression Preliminary award winner. Rangel received $1,150 in cash scholarships.

Receiving the Spirit Award voted on by the contestants themselves was Amanda Munoz of Seguin High School. Her sponsors were Dr. Bree Vickers, Doctor of Optometry.

All winners were presented with plaques and bouquets courtesy of Viola’s Flower Shop and Dietz Flowers.
