(Guadalupe County) – Guadalupe County residents who experienced damage during last week’s severe weather and confirmed tornado are encouraged to submit the extent of their damage to the Texas Division of Emergency Management via its newly opened disaster assessment website. This voluntary effort, according to Patrick Pinder, Guadalupe County Emergency Management coordinator, and fire marshal, will be in the hopes of qualifying for federal FEMA assistance.
Although submitting information to TDEM’s website is voluntary; Pinder says it is crucial to input information so that the predefined threshold can be met for Guadalupe County and its qualification for FEMA assistance. As of Friday, Guadalupe County had received 59 self-reported damage assessments and seven reports of homes suffering “catastrophic damage.”
On Monday, March 21, Guadalupe County suffered widespread and severe damage due to the storm which passed through the county. Damages reported to local offices included heavy rains, high winds, hail, and tornado damage. Due to the damages being reported and the storm’s severity, Judge Kyle Kutscher signed a Proclamation Declaring a Local Disaster for Guadalupe County. At the same time, Guadalupe County Emergency Management implemented the disaster plan and has continued to conduct damage assessments and evaluate the extent of those damages.
