Bryce Nall no-hits Crystal City, fans 19 in Navarro win
(Geronimo) – Navarro’s Bryce Nall delivered the pitching performance of the season among area baseball teams Friday night with a no-hitter and 19 strikeouts in the Panthers’ 9-0 home win over Crystal City.

Nall, a junior right hander, fanned 19 of the 22 batters he faced with only one walk in seven innings.

Landun Taylor went 3-4 with a double and three RBIs to lead Navarro at the plate.

Tristan Brashears went 4-4 and drove in a run. Will Boswell doubled, tripled, and scored three times. Jacob Frederick tripled with an RBI and a run scored. Jaxen Monkerud drove in two runs.

Navarro (12-8) hosts Devine on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Seguin softball run-rules Alamo Heights, handles Veterans Memorial
(Seguin) – Seguin finished up the first round of the District 26-5A softball schedule in dominant fashion Friday night with a 16-1 run-rule win over Alamo Heights in three innings, and followed with a 7-3 win over San Antonio-Veterans Memorial to open the second round on Saturday..

Chloe Belicek drilled a two-run triple to left field to get the scoring started in the first inning of Friday’s game, and the Matadors never looked back. Seguin plated four runs in the first, seven in the second, and five in the third to put the 15-run mercy rule in effect.

Belicek finished with three RBIs and two runs scored to pace a long list of offensive standouts. Summer Flores, Ryan Rangel, and Camryn Rios each drove in two. Rios and Layla Salazar each recorded two hits and scored three times. Layla and Graylyn Salazar each drove in a run, as did Allie Kubena, Allie Mize, and Lily Rangel. Vanessa Sanchez had a base hit and scored three times.

Seguin connected for 10 hits and drew seven walks. Head coach John Garcia credited his lineup for an improved approach at the plate after some inconsistent outings in recent weeks.

“I think what really helped us was the game at Drip (Dripping Springs), where we made some bad choices,” Garcia said. “We looked at some film, we made some adjustments, and the girs stuck with it, and it just came out really well for us.”

Kendall Hurt picked up the win in the pitcher’s circle. The sophomore right-hander allowed a single run on four hits and struck out four in three innings.

Hurt came in after Veterans Memorial jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of Saturday’s games and kept the Patriots scoreless the rest of the way. She allowed just four hits in seven shutout frames to earn her second win in as many days.

Camryn Rios doubled twice and scored twice on Saturday. Aguilar, Belicek, and Mize recorded two hits apiece. Aguilar doubled and scored once. Belicek crossed the plate twice. Mize had an RBI and a run scored.

Kubena and Graylyn Salazar each drove in two runs and scored once.

The two wins move the Matadors to 5-4 in district play, 14-9 overall. Seguin heads to Kyle on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. road game against Lehman.

Seguin baseball drops district games to Canyon, Champion
(New Braunfels, Seguin) – Seguin baseball suffered an 11-1 district loss to Canyon in New Braunfels on Friday and a 6-3 setback to Boerne-Champion at ‘Smokey’ Joe Williams Field on Saturday..

Cory Mazzurana provided the Matadors’ only offense with a solo home run against Canyon. He also doubled to finish 2-3 on the night. Eddie Homan had Seguin’s only other hit.

Seguin led Champion 2-1 after the first inning of Saturday’s game, but the Chargers plated runs in the second and third to take the lead for good and tacked on three more in the top of the fifth.

Mazzurana and Drew Burnett each doubled, with Burnett scoring twice and Mazzurana driving in two runs as part of a 2-4 afternoon.

Tim Belicek and Nick Carmona each went 1-3, and Carmona drove in a run. Kai Seidenberger scored Seguin’s other run.

Belicek pitched 4-1/3 innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on three hits with four strikeouts and seven walks. Gabriel Molina worked around three hits to pitch 2-2/3 frames of scoreless relief.

Seguin is 1-5 in district play, 7-10 overall. The Matadors continue the 26-5A slate Tuesday with a 7 p.m. road game at Dripping Springs.

Bulldogs handle Brahmas in 13th straight win
(Stockdale) – Marion is off to a 3-0 start in the District 26-3A baseball race and owns a 13-0 season record after blanking Stockdale 8-0 on the road Friday evening.

Bryce Gonyer struck out 14 in a four-hit shutout to notch the complete-game win on the mound.

Jake Burris crushed a home run to finish 2-4 with two RBIs.

Cameron Baumann, Kallen Bek, and Lane Pawelek recorded two hits apiece. Pawelek and Bek each drove in two runs. Baumann and Zach Halter each had an RBI, and Bek scored twice.

Marion (13-0, 3-0) continues district play on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. home game against Randolph.

Marion softball drops road game in Luling
(Luling) – Marion suffered its first loss of the District 26-3A softball slate Friday night with an 11-5 setback in Luling.

Breyana Gonzales went 2-3 with a double, drove in two runs, and scored once.

Alyss Robles and Hannah Halter each drove in a run. Gianna Ricarte went 2-4. Alexa Ortiz and Jaslyne Williams each recorded a base hit and scored once.

The Bulldogs are 1-1 in district play, 5-16-1 overall. Marion heads to Universal City on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. district game against Randolph.
