Seguin baseball goes 2-1 in San Marcos tourney; softball game vs. Johnson rescheduled
(San Marcos) – Seguin won two of its three games in the San Marcos baseball tournament last week, run-ruling Killeen-Ellison 19-0 on Thursday before suffering a 5-2 loss to Cibolo-Steele and notching a 5-4 win over San Marcos on Friday.

Drew Burnett doubled twice, scored twice, and drove in four runs to lead the offensive barrage against Ellison.

Tim Belicek went 3-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Klein Vickers and Kai Seidenberger each drove in two. Cooper Neumann and Landon Trost each collected two hits, two runs, and an RBI. Aiden Quiroga, Kayden Holz, and Nick Carmona each drove in a run.

Holz tossed a two-hitter and struck out six to earn the win on the mound.

Vickers went 2-3 with a double in the Friday loss to Steele. Cory Mazzurana recorded Seguin’s only RBI.

Carmona went 2-4 with a double and drove in three runs in the win over San Marcos. Mazzurana also drove in a run. Holz scored twice. Trost recorded a base hit and two runs scored.

Trost worked six solid innings on the mound to earn the win, allowing three runs on six hits with two strikeouts.

Seguin (7-5) returns to action Wednesday at ‘Smokey’ Joe Williams Field with an 11:30 a.m. first pitch against Comal-Davenport. The Mats hit the road on Thursday to resume the District 26-5A schedule with a 1 p.m. game at Kerrville-Tivy.

The Seguin softball team was initially slated to host Buda-Johnson in a district game on Friday, it was initially rescheduled for Saturday and moved to the Johnson High School campus, and now it has been pushed back to Monday, still at Johnson, with a 2 p.m. first pitch.

Navarro baseball closes La Grange tourney with bounce-back win
(La Grange) – Navarro opened the La Grange baseball tournament with a 14-6 loss to Sealy and a 3-2 setback to Alice on Thursday, but came back strong on Friday to out-slug Madisonville 15-7.

Bryce Nall doubled, tripled, and drove in two runs in the loss to Sealy. Kaden Monkerud and Landun Taylor each drove in a run.

Baylor Quarles drove in both runs in the loss to Alice. Will Boswell gave the Panthers a quality start, allowing two runs on six hits with six strikeouts in five innings.

Navarro exploded for 12 runs in the fifth inning to rally past Madisonville on Friday.

Tristan Brashears, Jaxen Monkerud, and Boswell each went 2-3 at the plate. Boswell drove in four runs, Kaden Monkerud drove in three, and Jaxen Monkerud added two RBIs. Brashears scored three times and drove in a run. Nall, Marco Moncada, and Jacob Frederck each drove in a run.

Caleb Thomas ended up with the win after 2-1/3 innings of relief work.

The Panthers (8-6) play host to Somerset on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Austin-Akins on Wednesday at 1 p.m. They close the week with a Friday doubleheader against Comal-Davenport at 2:30 p.m.

Strong showing for Navarro softball in San Marcos tourney
(San Marcos) – Navarro softball navigated a busy three-day stretch with four wins and two losses in the San Marcos tournament, which featured a number of 5A and 6A schools in the field.

The Panthers opened the tournament with two wins over larger schools on Thursday, knocking off 6A San Marcos 12-3 and 5A San Antonio-Veterans Memorial 9-5.

Sydni Stevens collected a pair of doubles, two RBIs, and two runs scored in the win over San Marcos. Laylin Sturm went 2-3, scored twice, and drove in two runs. Samantha Mundine recorded two hits and three RBIs. Sarah Falor went 2-3, scored twice, and drove in a run. Kaislyn Tovar drove in a pair of runs.

Samantha Wegman went 2-3 at the plate and earned the win in the pitcher’s circle.

Mundine tripled twice, scored twice, and drove in a run against Veterans Memorial. Falor broke loose for two doubles, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Stevens drove in a two runs. Sturm tripled and scored twice.

Wegman tossed two scoreless innings, and Kassidy Bishop ended up with the win in the circle.

Wegman’s four-inning two-hitter and Falor’s solo home run did the trick for Navarro in a 1-0 win over Arlington-Bowie on Friday. Sturm and Reagan Herrera recorded the team’s only other hits in that game.

Navarro dropped Friday’s second game to Antonian Prep 10-4. Falor and Bishop each went 1-2 with an RBI. Sturm and Herrera each had a base hit and a run scored.

The Panthers closed the tournament Saturday with a 4-1 loss to Iowa Park and 12-0 run-rule win over San Antonio-Southwest.

Sturm and Sarah Howard recorded the only hits against Iowa Park. Falor walked twice and scored Navarro’s only run.

Bishop pitched a three-inning one-hitter in the win over Southwest on Saturday. Howard belted a home run and a double to finish 2-2 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Tovar and Herrera each went 2-3 with a run scored. Tovar drove in two runs, Herrera one. Stevens tripled and scored twice. Carlie Pitner doubled, scored twice, and drove in a run. Falor went 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Sturm walked and scored twice.

After a 4-2 tournament run in San Marcos, Navarro’s season record is 13-5. The Panthers host cross-county rival Marion on Monday at noon, and hit the road to face Nixon-Smiley on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Marion baseball wins two in Blanco, pushes record to 9-0
(Blanco) – Marion baseball extended its season opening winning streak to nine games on Thursday with a pair of dominant tournament wins in Blanco, 11-3 over Malakoff and 12-1 over over Lytle.

Jake Burris doubled twice and drove in a run in the four-hit performance against Malakoff. Ryken Autry added three hits, three runs, and two RBIs. Cameron Baumann went 3-4, drove in three, and scored once. Kallen Bek drove in two runs. Konner Harborth contributed two hits and two runs scored.

Bryce Gonyer struck out seven in five innings to earn the win on the mound.

Baumann and Bek each drove in two against Lytle. Autry, Burris, and Gonyer each drove in a run and scored twice.

Zach Halter allowed a single run on three hits to record the win.

Marion opens the District 26-3A schedule Monday afternoon with a 1 p.m. home game against Great Hearts Northern Oaks.

Marion softball goes 2-2 in Floresville, falls at Blanco
(Floresville, Blanco) – The Marion High School softball team played five games in three days at the end of last week, going 2-2 in tournament games at Floresville on Thursday and Saturday, and suffering a 15-1 loss at Blanco on Friday.

The Bulldogs defeated Comal-Pieper 11-3 and fell to Floresville 5-1 on Thursday.

Juliana Loyola drove in four runs against Pieper. Alyssa Robles, Greenlee Trevino, and Emma Luensmann each drove in two. Kira Jones earned the win in the pitcher’s circle.

Robles went 2-3 at the plate agianst Floresville. Hailey Halter drove in Loyola for the Bulldogs’ only run in that game.

Robles went 2-3 in the Friday loss to Blanco as well. Gianna Ricarte drove in Trevino for Marion’s only run. Breyana Gonzales and Kelli Cielencki had the team’s only other hits.

Marion edged San Antonio-Providence 7-5 and dropped a 4-3 squeaker to 5A Alamo Heights in Floresville on Saturday.

Ricarte and Cielencki each went 2-2 in the win over Providence. Cielencki scored twice and drove in a run, and Ricarte scored once. Robles drove in three runs, and Carlie Alvarado delivered an RBI. Loyola went 1-2 with a run scored. Robles also picked up the win in the circle, allowing two earned runs in five innings.

Alamo Heights scored all four runs in the first inning of Saturday’s second game, and Marion battled back with three in the top of the third.

Breyana Gonzales and Carlie Alvarado each drove in a run. Cielencki, Gonzales, and Maggie Luna each scored once. Ricarte, Cielencki, Robles, Gonazales, Alvarado, and Loyola each recorded a hit. Jaslyne Williams pitched well in defeat, allowing two earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts in five innings and keeping the Mules scoreless after the first.

The Bulldogs (4-15-1) visit cross-county rival Navarro on Monday at noon.
