Marion softball pulls away in extra innings for staggering 36-25 win over Wimberley


(Wimberley) – In the highest scoring high school softball game you’ve probably every heard of, Marion plated 15 runs in the eighth inning to pull away from Wimberley for a 36-25 road win on Wednesday.

The game was tied at 21-all at the end of the seventh and went extra innings. The Bulldogs put a 15-spot on the board in the top of the eighth, and the Texans could only answer with four runs in the bottom half.

The teams combined for 32 hits and 24 errors on the night.

Breyana Gonzales and Gianna Ricarte each drove in six runs for Marion. Greenlee Trevino totaled five RBIs, and Alyssa Robles added four. Jaslyne Williams, Carlie Alvarado, and Juliana Loyola each drove in two runs.

Williams and Robles scored six runs apiece. Robles went 3-4 at the plate. Williams also got the win in the pitcher’s circle.

Marion (2-12-1) is scheduled to visit Blanco for a 6 p.m. first pitch on Friday.
